Key Stage 3

Excellence in learning and teaching is a core value of Lecale Trinity Grammar School. It is our aim to provide a modern, broad, engaging, enjoyable and challenging curriculum for our students that fosters a lifelong love of learning while affording the skills, capabilities and values that will lead to success both at school and in their adult life.

Utilising pupil voice, the curriculum of Lecale Trinity Grammar School has been carefully designed to meet the needs of all students. It will be supported by an extensive Pastoral Care provision and numerous opportunities for extra-curricular activities to ensure all students develop holistically to their full potential.

A carefully designed transition programme will be used to ease the move from P7 to Year 8. The KS3 curriculum covers all the main areas of the Northern Ireland Curriculum (The Arts, Language and Literacy, Mathematics and Numeracy, Modern Languages, Environment and Society, Science and Technology, Learning for Life and Work & Religious Education).

Opportunities for connected learning between departments ensure Cross Curricular Skills (Communication, Using ICT and Mathematics) are infused throughout the areas of study and provides creativity in developing knowledge and understanding through the study of interconnecting topics. Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities (Managing Information, Being Creative, Working with Others, Self-Management, Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making) are incorporated in the KS3 Curriculum to encourage student to develop strong interpersonal skills, creativity and critical thinking skills.

Through Employability, Local and Global Citizenship, Personal Development and Home Economics, students develop knowledge, skills and capabilities that are necessary for life and work while focusing on: developing young people as individuals; as contributors to society; and, as contributors to the economy and the environment.

A tailored employability and careers programme aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about subject choices at GCSE which will allow them to achieve their career goals.  

Key Stage 4

The KS4 Curriculum in Lecale Trinity Grammar School is designed to ensure all students achieve their potential and can progress to further study or employment. Different pathways allow students to access 7, 8, 9 or 10 GCSEs or GCSE equivalents and some students can access 11 or 12 GCSEs through a Gifted and Talented Programme. English, Mathematics and Religious Studies are studied by all students and every effort is made to accommodate the combinations of non-compulsory subjects. Guidance on the selection of GCSE pathways and optional subjects will begin in January of Year 10. Students will also follow Physical Education, Personal Development and Careers programmes designed to support their academic studies.

 

Key Stage 5/Post-16

Progression to Post-16 study is dependent on GCSE performance and through a tailored and personalised careers programme in Year 12 students will begin to focus on Post-16 pathways. Students who embark on a Post-16 programme of study in Lecale Trinity Grammar School must show commitment to a rigorous programme of independent study if they are to achieve their potential and realise their plans for life after Lecale Trinity Grammar School. The courses on offer will afford students the skills and qualifications to access further education, third level education, higher level apprenticeships and employment. A varied programme of enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities will encourage personal capabilities and development of thinking skills that will lead to success in the next chapter of their lives.

GCSE results and career aspirations will be used to place students in an appropriate pathway consisting of either 3 or 4 AS subjects.
