Lecale Trinity Grammar Year 8s into Semi's with 3-0 Win

Match report by Mr Carberry

After two rounds on the road, Lecale Trinity Grammar School returned home to Ballyhornan to play a well-respected St. Joseph’s side from Derry. The Year 8 boys did not disappoint on their return, with an accomplished performance which pleased the good crowd of spectators in attendance. The outstanding defensive unit of Cathan O’Reilly in goals, Ollie Shaw and JJ McGrattan at centre back, along with Conor McVeigh and Conor Fitzpatrick, ensured that St. Joseph’s were unable to achieve a serious shot at goal over the full match. Frustratingly however, Lecale were unable to show their dominance in the first half on the scoreboard, as the half finished 0-0.
Cool heads prevailed though, as the boys came out firing in the second half. Conal Mulholland broke the deadlock, making space in a very tight box and supplying a beautiful finish. This was quickly followed by a fantastically worked team goal, as centre forward Jack McCambley held up play and nudged a perfectly timed pass into the thundering run of Noah Feenan, who hammered the ball into the St. Joseph’s net. Conal Mulholland was the beneficiary of Michael Johnson’s fantastically dangerous corner kicks to score his second, and Lecale Trinity Grammar’s third.
Man of the match on this occasion goes to JJ McGrattan who was impeccable throughout. But it could have easily gone to several players, such was the impressive performance of the team. Conor Higgins, Joshua Heatley and Captain Michael Johnson fought gallantly in midfield, and used the ball expertly when in possession.

The team await the result of Lisneal College Derry and St. Malachy’s Belfast to see who they will play next in the semi-final.
Well done Year 8 lads, Mr Carberry & Mr Maxwell
